Review of Terminated International Research Projects
May 2025 - While much of this work has been halted with the closure of USAID, the importance of the work and the influence it has had around the world remains unchanged. These programs, though international in scope, have expanded learning opportunities for local students, trained domestic and international leaders, and built a powerful international platform of partnerships. Their impact ultimately helps ensure security for our nation and on global scale.

July 2024 - The world cacao and chocolate market was estimated to be worth more than $47 billion in 2021, and growing. Two UC Davis collaborative projects aim to enlarge the share of that wealth for small farmers in Colombia.
Crump aims to improve food in rural markets
Nepal project lands $900K grant
February 2024 - A grant of nearly $900,000 will support a two-year project to introduce special packaging and systems for cold and dry storage into rural Nepal’s market chain. Crump thinks she can prove these innovations will increase the income of fruit and vegetable farmers and sellers, decrease food loss, improve food safety and make more nutritious food available for shoppers. She is an associate professor of teaching in the UC Davis Department of Plant Sciences.

Team project wins Cacao for Peace grant from USDA, USAID
June 2023 - Amanda Crump and Marina Vergara won a federal grant to use the cacao value chain as a point of both learning and international engagement for students here and at La Salle University in Bogotá, Colombia.
Crump, Zepeda win grant for sustainability in Mexico
March 2023 - Ana Zepeda has received a $7,300-grant to help women in southern Mexico plant a community garden, intended to provide better nutrition for their children and keep them in school.
Poudel wins AAUW International Fellowship
December 2022 - Isha Poudel has been awarded a fellowship by the American Association of University Women. Poudel is a second-year master’s student in the UC Davis Department of Plant Sciences majoring in international agricultural development, with a focus on gender equities and disaster resiliency in food systems. She is in Amanda Crump’s research lab group that focuses on agricultural equity and social inclusion.

November 2022 - Amanda Crump is an associate professor of teaching for international agricultural development in the Department of Plant Sciences. She recently spoke at a gathering of the United Nations Association in Sacramento.
Poudel named to Future Leaders Forum
Plan: Ag technology plus equity for Nepalese women farmers
August 2022 - Master’s student Isha Poudel wants to bring agricultural technology to rural communities while empowering women farmers in her homeland of Nepal. Poudel is among 12 young scientists who will get help with her career goals after being named to this year’s Future Leaders Forum by the Association for International Agriculture and Rural Development.
Crump lab receives one of the 2021 Grants for Advancing Sustainable Development
Seven grant projects are advancing 11 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals to achieve a better future
March 2021 - The 17 UN SDGs include goals such as ending hunger, ensuring clean water, combating climate change, and eradicating inequalities. They provide a globally-recognized framework and a common language to achieve sustainable development across economic, social and environmental dimensions. This year’s seven selected projects contribute to 11 of the 17 SDGs—locally and globally—bringing together more than 20 faculty, researchers, and students from across UC Davis and collaborating institutions worldwide.

May 2020 - Plant sciences teaching professor Amanda Crump is recipient of the 2020 Western Region Award for Excellence in College and University Teaching in the Food and Agricultural Sciences new teacher category.
